Being a part of the always solid and always interesting bass section.

Traditional Irish, American Folk, Classic Rock, anything with a good beat.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Play with my daughter Madelyn, go hiking or backpacking, play soccer

Braveheart

Survivorman

What is your favorite restaurant?
Brick Oven Pizza

What do you like best about Buffalo?
The changing scenery on my way to work. I get mountains, rivers, forests, city and a great lake all in one half-hour drive!


Biography

Brett Shurtliffe serves as the Associate Principle Double Bassist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Shurtliffe holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music where he received the prestigious Performers Certificate, and a Master of Music from Duquesne University. In 2003 he was the top American Prizewinner at the International Society of Bassists (ISB) Solo Competition, and in 2005 he won 1st Prize at the ISB Orchestral Competition.Shurtliffe also won the 2003 American String Teachers Association (ASTA) Pennsylvania/Delaware chapter's Solo Competition and the following year received top honors for Double Bass at the National ASTA Solo Competition. He has appeared in recital up and down the east coast of the U.S. and Canada, and as an orchestral musician has appeared with the Erie, Wheeling, Detroit, and Pittsburgh Symphonies. During the summer Mr. Shurtliffe also teaches at the Round Top Festival in Texas.
