Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Fine Arts Department at Canisius College offers a three-credit music survey course. This course includes a general history of music from the 17th century to the present, Buffalo
Philharmonic Orchestra history, the current Buffalo Philharmonic organizational structure, presentations from Orchestra staff and musicians, guidance on writing concert reviews, and information specific to concerts the
students attend. Long Term Program The Long Term Program is a three-year education initiative designed to provide several undercapitalized elementary schools with music education opportunities and multiple
concert experiences. In addition to attending BPO educational concerts, the participating teachers and students design and produce several projects before and after the concerts, work with Philharmonic musicians, and
hear small ensemble performances. Teachers collaborate with the Education Department staff to help create the curriculum. Student progress is measured by pre- and post-program assessment, portfolios, and interviews.
Participation is by application only. Symphony Scholars Sponsored by Bodil and George Gellman

take place at Kleinhans Music Hall. Pre-concert classes take place in the classroom or at Kleinhans Music Hall.
Participation in this program requires a registration process. Individual students can register for
the classes at Kleinhans. Teachers can register individual students for Kleinhans Music Hall classes or large groups for in-school classes. A fifteen student minimum is required for in-school classes.
