Qanun
Country of Origin: Egypt
Instrument Family: String
The qanun is closely related to a zither that originated in the Middle East and likely descends from the Egyptian harp. The body of the qanun consists of a trapezoid-shaped flat, wooden board over which 81 strings are stretched. Qanun strings are plucked with two plectra, or picks, to produce sound.
