Known as the tambourine of the Middle East, the riq is often used to accompany Turkish and Arabic music. Traditionally, the riq has a wooden frame and a fish-skin head. Players can use their fingers, hand slaps, tapping on the jingles, shaking the instrument in a back and forth or twisting motion, and hitting the rim of the drum with the palm of the hand to produce varied sounds.
