The Buffalo AKG Art Museum, University at Buffalo James Joyce Museum, and the BPO present a unique multimedia event highlighted by Robert Merfeld’s composition, Bridget Anne Hart: An Irish Legacy. Set for narrator, winds, and strings, the work was inspired by memories of departing the Irish homeland for a new land. The program will also feature a reading from Joyicity, performed by Irish Classical Theatre Company, and an update on progress at UB’s James Joyce Museum.

This year, we’re thrilled to open the doors to everyone — because the BPO loves Buffalo, and we want to share the music with our entire community! Led by Music Director JoAnn Falletta, this annual concert features a vibrant and personal program showcasing pieces the BPO musicians love, but don’t always get to perform during the season. Richard Wagner’s haunting tale of a sea captain cursed to roam the oceans for eternity. Once every seven years, he is allowed ashore to search for a bride whose sacrifice of selfless love can provide his salvation. The production will feature a costumed cast of six, striking projections, and evocative imagery to bring the story to life. English supertitles will accompany the performance in the original German.
