BPO Summer Studio

July 6-8, 2018
Kleinhans Music Hall

The BPO presents a summer learning opportunity for young instrumental musicians in grades 9-12 this July (rising 8th graders included). Come join the musicians of the BPO in a weekend of studio classes, side-by-side mentoring and performance opportunities at Kleinhans Music Hall. We are accepting applications from all orchestral instruments, excluding piano. The focus of the weekend is in-depth work with BPO musicians in a studio class setting. This gives young musicians individual attention as well as group learning experiences in a focused and supportive environment. Over the course of the weekend, participants will build their musical skills, their knowledge of their chosen instrument and relationships with BPO musicians which can carry on beyond the program. In addition to the studio classes, there will be a side-by-side orchestra reading session conducted by BPO Resident Conductor Stefan Sanders, and a performance from each studio with their BPO mentor. For interested participants, there will also be an opportunity to audition for an honors solo recital performance as well.

Summer Studio Schedule (subject to change)

Friday, July 6, 5:30-9:30pm – Registration, Welcome Dinner and Studio Class 1

Saturday, July 7, 8:30am-9:00pm – Side-by-Side chamber orchestra reading and lunch with BPO, Studio Class 2, BPO panel discussion, dinner and movie night
