For Young Musicians

Symphony Scholars High School Program

Musicianship. Leadership. Community. Our Symphony Scholars program is open to all WNY high-school students. Scholars enjoy meeting guest artists, concert passes and insider access to the BPO.

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra hosts incredible guest artists each year. Now we are making many of these masters available to the community in an intimate learning experience. Select artists work one-on-one with local students in front of a live audience.

Young Musician Scholarships

The Friends of the BPO Volunteers and the Buffalo Chamber Music Society partner each year to award the Young Musician Scholarships and the Silverman String Scholarships.

GBYO Side by Side Concert

The Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra joins the BPO for a mentoring experience that culminates in a joint performance on stage at Kleinhans Music Hall.

BAVPA Side by Side Concert

The Buffalo Academy for Visual & Performing Arts joins the BPO for a side-by-side experience for the music department students, while providing a showcase for all the disciplines at BAVPA

Composer Opportunities

Each year, the BPO offers budding composers the opportunity to work with professional composers, conductors and musicians through residencies, professional development workshops and new music readings.

BPO Summer Studio

The BPO presents a summer learning opportunity for young instrumental musicians in grades 9-12. Come join the musicians of the BPO in a weekend of studio classes, side-by-side mentoring and performance opportunities at Kleinhans Music Hall.

Young Artist Violin Competition

For the first time, the BPO is offered a competition opportunity for young artists in the spring of 2017.  The winner received a $1,000 award and a performance in 2018 with Dennis Kim and the BPO playing the Bach Double Violin Concerto.

The BPO hosts student internships for fall, spring and summer semesters.
