Doctors of the World with the BPO

July 9-13, 2018
Kleinhans Music Hall

Doctors from around the world are invited to come play with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in a five day side-by-side experience in the beautiful and historic Kleinhans Music Hall.  Performing Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Wagner’s Three Dances from Meistersinger and Strauss’ Don Juan under the direction of acclaimed music director JoAnn Falletta, all participants will receive in-depth coaching sessions, full rehearsals and optional chamber music opportunities in this meaningful, musical experience.  Take the opportunity to come and explore the Buffalo/Niagara region including the natural wonder of Niagara Falls.

In 2014 and again in 2016 the BPO welcomed doctors from all over the United States as well as Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Costa Rica, South  Africa, Japan and Taiwan. The BPO is proud to partner with the Oishei Children’s Hospital to bring the medical community together through music and benefit our own local hospital in the process.

Unique side-by-side experience:

Doctors from around the world are invited to come play with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in a five day side-by-side experience in the beautiful and historic Kleinhans Music Hall.  Under the direction of acclaimed music director JoAnn Falletta, participants will join the musicians of the BPO in rehearsals, coachings and a final culminating performance. Repertoire includes Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Wagner’s Three Dances from Meistersinger and Strauss’ Don Juan.

Proceeds to a worthy local cause:

Our very first Doctors of the World with the BPO in 2014 raised $15,000 for the brand new Oishei Children’s Hospital.  The new building opened November 2017!  This year, we will collect donations for the Oishei Children’s Hospital Healing Arts Fund at our final concert.

Chamber music:

For participants wishing to deepen their musical immersion, optional chamber music opportunities throughout the week will also be available.  Ensembles will have access to coaches from the Buffalo Philharmonic.  Chamber groups wishing to perform will have the opportunity to do so both at the Chamber Music Showcase and at the new Oishei Children’s Hospital.

Niagara Falls and beyond:

Organized opportunities to explore the Buffalo/Niagara region will be available for participants to take part.

The region has incredible offerings for visitors such as the famous Niagara Falls, sailing on Lake Erie, Frank Lloyd Wright house tours, the world famous Albright-Knox Art Gallery, many fantastic bars and restaurants, and more.  Time will be built into the schedule to allow for individual exploration as well.  Please see www.visitbuffaloniagara.com
