Favorites & Friends: A Celebration of 20 Years of JoAnn Falletta

Join the celebration as our lady of honor, Maestro JoAnn Falletta, takes the podium for her official 20th season with the BPO. JoAnn has handpicked a sparkling repertoire, including Saint-Saëns’ Capriccio and Rondo played by violin virtuoso Tianwa Yang, whom JoAnn conducted in her United States premiere performance; Rossini’s Overture to Semiramide; Liszt’s powerfully foreboding Totentanz, with JoAnn’s friend William Wolfram on piano, finishing with Dvořák’s bucolic and idyllic Symphony No. 8.

This concert event will rock you! Brent Havens, the mastermind behind such sold-out BPO shows as The Music of Led Zeppelin and The Music of The Doors, returns with a show spotlighting the one-of-a-kind music that audiences everywhere have been rediscovering through the award-winning film “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Broadway rock icon Tony Vincent steps into the glittery shoes of Freddie Mercury as the BPO lends depth and color to Queen’s classic hits.

Four young lovers discover the course of true love runs anything but smooth, as supernatural sprites conspire to reveal what fools we mortals be, and draw us all into the collective dream of romance and merriment.

The final words of Mozart were left unfinished at his death on December 5, 1791. The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus joins the BPO to honor the world’s most-celebrated composer with his profoundly moving Requiem, a must-experience for any classical music lover. The masterwork is paired with a staple of the cello repertoire, Concerto in C by Mozart’s contemporary, Joseph Haydn, magnificently performed by young artist and Buffalo native Drew Cone. JoAnn Falletta conducts. Come one hour prior to these concerts to hear directly from the artists in “Musically Speaking,” hosted by JoAnn Falletta.
