Jonathan Lombardo: Cuban Influence on Western Music
Following a recent trip to Cuba, Principal Trombone Jonathan Lombardo became fascinated by the Cuban influence on Western music. Mambo, cha-cha, danzon, and rumba are a few of the attention-grabbing rhythmic motors that have created some of the most unforgettable moments in the orchestral repertoire. Through guided listening and brief score analysis, he will share the many ways in which traditional Cuban genres have worked their way into the concert hall. Featuring notable works by Gershwin, Copland, and Bernstein.
