SUMMARY:Mendelssohn & Dvořák
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nThe concert opens with Franco-Brazilian composer Elodie Bouny’s striking homage to the Amazon rainforest and the destruction it has faced in the form of Ignis II—meaning “fire.” The piece serves as a contemporary complement to Mendelssohn’s exquisite and romantic Violin Concerto\, which features a turning-point cadenza as a center jewel. Award-winning soloist Amaryn Olmeda brings Mendelssohn’s virtuosic and vivacious melodies to the stage. Countering the sparkling energy of the concerto\, but no less joyful\, Dvořák’s pastoral Symphony No. 8 vividly depicts Czech songs and dances through rich\, pleasing melodies and harmonies. SUMMARY:Haydn Cello Concerto
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nThe powerful\, tense chords of Sibelius’ patriotic Finlandia open a program filled with nationalistic pride. The orchestration is stirring\, powerful\, and yet restrained at times—evocative of the fact that the symphonic poem was written as the composer’s “battle hymn” for Finland as it faced political opposition. Haydn’s lyrically virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 2 follows—regarded as one of the greatest works for cello of the Classical era—sparkling and singing under talented young star Sterling Elliott’s fingers. Grieg’s four charming Symphonic Dances\, inspired by Norwegian folk songs\, close the program with jaunty rhythms and folk-dance melodies that played a key role in formalizing Norway’s national identity. \nRune Bergmann\, conductor\nSterling Elliott\, cello \nSIBELIUS  Finlandia\nHAYDN  Cello Concerto No. 2 in D major\nGRIEG  Symphonic Dances[/vc_column_text][vc_separator css=””][vc_raw_html css=””]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwZGF0YS10ZXN0aWQlM0QlMjJlbWJlZC1pZnJhbWUlMjIlMjBzdHlsZSUzRCUyMmJvcmRlci1yYWRpdXMlM0ExMnB4JTIyJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZvcGVuLnNwb3RpZnkuY29tJTJGZW1iZWQlMkZwbGF5bGlzdCUyRjZNVVA1bFlQNVE4TUZTaVl5ckZVdXclM0Z1dG1fc291cmNlJTNEZ2VuZXJhdG9yJTIyJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjIxMDAlMjUlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjI0MDAlMjIlMjBmcmFtZUJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBhbGxvd2Z1bGxzY3JlZW4lM0QlMjIlMjIlMjBhbGxvdyUzRCUyMmF1dG9wbGF5JTNCJTIwY2xpcGJvYXJkLXdyaXRlJTNCJTIwZW5jcnlwdGVkLW1lZGlhJTNCJTIwZnVsbHNjcmVlbiUzQiUyMHBpY3R1cmUtaW4tcGljdHVyZSUyMiUyMGxvYWRpbmclM0QlMjJsYXp5JTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGaWZyYW1lJTNF[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Carmina Burana
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As the first of a trilogy of cantatas\, Orff’s irreverent Carmina Burana draws from a 13th century compilation of medieval vagabond songs and poems detailing fate’s fickleness\, pagan delights\, and corruption. The primitivistic piece enraptures audiences with its hypnotic sensuality\, preoccupation with a chant-like and ritualistic style\, and powerful rhythms. Fantastic solo voices joined by the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus sing of the full range of human love\, from pining to ecstatic and more. Hindemith’s reworked Symphonic Dances complete the program\, which emerged from discarded ballet collaborations. Challenging counterpoint as well as soft\, dignified passages constitute this Neo-Classical piece written in a tumultuous era of history. \nJoAnn Falletta\, conductor\nSara LeMesh\, soprano\nKameron Lopreore\, tenor\nJoshua Conyers\, baritone\nBuffalo Philharmonic Chorus \nHINDEMITH  Symphonic Dances\nORFF  Carmina Burana[/vc_column_text][vc_separator css=””][vc_raw_html css=””]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[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:American Soundscapes
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nOur season concludes with three iconic compositions and two orchestral world premieres. The program opens with Bernstein’s toe-tapping Three Dance Episodes from On the Town\, a comedic Broadway hit filled with dance\, sentimentality\, and lightheartedness. The musical spirit of America continues with Copland’s emblematic and patriotic Appalachian Spring: Suite\, which blooms with optimism and brims with the tender promise of new life. Starting with its idiosyncratic clarinet glissando\, Gershwin’s jazz-infused Rhapsody in Blue swings and sweeps listeners into a different American soundscape where an improvisational-sounding piano line takes the center of this Jazz-age stage. These quintessential American pieces are paired with two works rooted in our own Western New York. Michael Daugherty’s Niagara Falls is a musical journey through one of the world’s great scenic wonders\, while Buffalo-born Paul Moravec’s Serenade—inspired by the Great Western Staircase at the New York State Capitol\, a marvel of intricate sculpture and history—offers a stirring narrative of ascent and aspiration. This closing concert provides a rich musical portrait of America—both past and present—bound to inspire listeners to appreciate the musical and natural beauty surrounding them. \nJoAnn Falletta\, conductor\nJon Kimura Parker\, piano \nBERNSTEIN  Three Dance Episodes from On the Town\nMICHAEL DAUGHERTY  Niagara Falls (Orchestral World Premiere)\nCOPLAND  Appalachian Spring: Suite\nPAUL MORAVEC  Serenade (Orchestral World Premiere)\nGERSHWIN  Rhapsody in Blue \nThe Saturday evening performance is sponsored by\n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator css=””][vc_raw_html css=””]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[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Coco in Concert | Live to Film
DESCRIPTION:Experience Coco in the most immersive way possible\, with the full film projected overhead while the BPO performs Michael Giacchino’s score live. The story follows Miguel\, a young boy who dreams of becoming a musician\, on a journey into the Land of the Dead that is filled with family\, memory\, and heart. What changes when the orchestra is in the room is the emotional depth. The humor lands bigger\, the tender moments feel shared\, and the music becomes a living presence. With Festival Encanto Hispano returning the same day for free events from 4:30pm – 7:30pm\, it is also a chance to make a full day of community\, culture\, and music at Kleinhans. \nPresentation licensed by Disney Concerts\n \n

SUMMARY:Hauntingly Halloween
DESCRIPTION:Ron Spigelman\, conductor \nOn Halloween night\, the BPO transforms Kleinhans into a world of shadow\, suspense\, and orchestral storytelling. Led by Ron Spigelman\, this hauntingly atmospheric program brings together music made for goosebumps\, from John Williams’ Jaws and Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique to Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain and Saint-Saëns’ Danse macabre. Each work builds tension\, drama\, and dark beauty\, creating a concert experience perfectly tuned to the spirit of the night. \nWhen the final note fades\, the evening continues. Stay after the concert for our Halloween Night Dance in the Mary Seaton Room\, with a DJ\, costumes encouraged\, and the bar open late. It is the ideal way to turn a concert into a full Halloween night out\, elegant\, playful\, and shared.
