Queen, Fab Four, Chieftains music to BPO ears, Business First

If history is any indication than Freddie Mercury, John Lennon and the Chieftains may go a long way towards bringing music fans to Kleinhans Music Hall much in the same way that Mahler and Brahms do for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.

In continuing a trend that it started a few seasons back, the BPO has booked a number of Pops series concerts that highlight the music of Queen, the Beatles and a March appearance by the Chieftains – all with the intent of luring more people to its performances.

“These aren’t traditional ‘Pops’ shows per se, but they have a huge following,” said Dan Hart, BPO executive director.

The series begins Saturday night when visiting conductor Brent Havens brings in a band and singers to work with the orchestra on a program devoted entirely to Queen music. It follows similar shows Havens has done in Buffalo that featured music by the Doors, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Read more.
