As one of the leaders in Buffalo’s cultural renaissance, the BPO seeks to maintain and enhance the cultural vibrancy of our community. To preserve our orchestra for the benefit of generations to come, we have embarked on a $30 million comprehensive campaign to push our endowment past the $50 million mark. A robust endowment will yield annual return in perpetuity while preserving the principal, thus providing a sustainable revenue source to secure the orchestra’s future.
The BPO thrives today due to its artistic excellence, visionary leaders and fiercely loyal patrons. The BPO Board of Trustees has created a strategic plan and themes to guide the orchestra through the decade and develop a strong long-term financial position:
- Grow our audience
- Develop and grow artistically
- Operate with excellence and fiscal responsibility
At the heart of this strategic plan — and key to its implementation — is the Crescendo Campaign, which will increase the endowment, retire short-term debt, provide bridge funding and secure new planned gift commitments.
Your support of the Crescendo Campaign will strengthen Buffalo’s musical movement and help ensure that our BPO will play on for generations to come.
Next Generation Education Fund
One of the BPO’s greatest ongoing challenges comes in securing funds to engage young audiences. The BPO invests almost $1.2 million annually in its education programs, with income from tickets and grants covering only half the expenses.
As one of its primary goals, the Crescendo Campaign looks to designate $10 million to establish the Next Generation Education Fund. These newly endowed funds will support key growth strategies for our education programs and allow us to broaden our reach throughout the region.
The $1,000,000 Challenge
To jump-start this fund, the Tower Family Fund challenged the BPO to a $1 million dollar-for-dollar match challenge! To date, over $3.3 million has been raised towards this effort.
