Ella E. Robinson

Composer, conductor, songwriter, educator and recording artist, Ella E. Robinson is currently the Minister of Music for St. Martin de Porres R.C. Church, a musician for the Greater Hope Baptist Church and is also the founder and director of the New Beginning Choral Ensemble.  She received her education in the Buffalo Public School system, Villa Maria College, Buffalo State College and The University of Buffalo.  Robinson taught as a vocal music teacher for The Buffalo Public Schools from 1972 to 2007, and served on a committee to revise the Vocal Music Curriculum for the district in 2000.  Ella also served as the state organist for the Young People's Department of the Empire State Baptist Convention, as  Director of The Western Area State Choir and as Choral Director for Villa Maria College. She served as the Western New York Chapter Representative of the Gospel Music Workshop of America from 1985 to present and currently serves on the National Board for the Women's Dept of The Gospel Music Workshop of America. Robinson has recorded 7 albums and several of her compositions have been recorded and taught annually at The National Gospel Music Workshop Of America.  Ella was inducted into The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame along with Grover Washington and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in October of 1999.  She has been awarded over 13 citations from the Buffalo City Common Council, Erie County and The State of New York Legislature. She, along with The New Beginnings Choral Ensemble, have performed in concert with the late Marvin Hamlisch, opera star Kathleen Battle and for President Bill Clinton. Her original composition“I Needs A Touch"  was recorded on the largest selling album in the history of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and was on the top 10 Gospel Chart and Billboard for over 40 weeks. Although officially retired, Ella continues to teach and mentor over 40 students.
