Jody Covington has been an administrator in the Buffalo Public School District since 2004. She is presently the Principal at Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts (BAVPA), a college and career preparatory school for grades 5-12, specializing in fine and performing arts. Jody is a graduate of the Arts Academy where she majored in music and continues to maintain a high regard for excelling students in various fields of studies in the arts and academics. During her tenure she has expanded and developed a number of partnerships with community networks to enhance the learning opportunities for children. She was instrumental in re-establishing the summer arts program at BAVPA, which first began in the mid 1980s. The summer program gives children in the Buffalo region exploration in the arts, cultivates creativity and encourages their interests in auditioning for the school. Jody received two Master degrees from State University of New York at Buffalo in Social Work and Educational Administration. Her professional experiences span from work as a medical social worker, special education and administration. She is a member of the Greater Hope Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha - Gamma Phi Omega Chapter and the Arts School Network.
