Internships

Internships

The BPO hosts college student internships for fall, spring and summer semesters. Interns will learn how we market and sell the concerts, how education programs are developed, and how those large donations become a reality.  All BPO internships are on a volunteer basis and can also be completed for credit at your educational institution.

Responsibilities

During the Fall and Spring, an intern with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is responsible for working with specific departments (Operations, Marketing, Education, Development) to advance the organization’s work in the WNY community and beyond. The individual works with designated department staff to define goals and objectives for the internship with intended outcomes, and is responsible for maintaining and completing all projects as defined by the supervisor. The individual undertakes other appropriate duties as assigned by the supervisor, including, but not limited to, assistance at BPO concerts and events, engaging with our online community, designing and implementing educational activities and materials, and expanding our audience through targeted marketing efforts.

During the summer, many students choose to join the BPO Summer Street Team to assist in implementing marketing strategies and serve as a BPO ambassador during our busy summer season.

Requirements

The BPO is looking for students in the Western New York area who are majoring in Marketing, Arts Management, Music Business or a related field and/or have an appreciation and interest in the arts and classical music. Applicants should be team players interested in learning about nonprofit administration and implementing best practices. Students should be comfortable learning to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Basic experience with the web and social media are useful. For summer applicants, having access to transportation is helpful as performance events are in multiple locations, however it is not required.

Compensation

All BPO internships are volunteer opportunities and do not include compensation. College credit is available but must be arranged through your educational institution. Complimentary tickets to the BPO and other benefits are offered.
